For those who don’t know what Vinyl Wrap is?
An extremely cost effective way to change the entire aesthetic of your vehicle as well as add a layer of protection. Vinyl wrapping has the ability to do colors and looks that are extremely hard to achieve via paint, while at the same time not compromising the OEM finish.
There are many premium manufacturers that produce high quality vinyl and also other companies that put out subpar films. We only use the best here at The Lab North America such as:
- Platinum Wrapping Films
- Avery Dennison
- 3m
- Inozetek
- KPMF
- Teckwrap
- Hexis
VINYL TYPES
Every Film has its own class and is a different type of film. We normally break these down into three options:
- Calendered – is a type of vinyl material that has been processed through a series of heated rollers to create a smooth, flat, and glossy surface. It is commonly used in the production of vinyl graphics, decals, banners, and signage. Calendered vinyl is often considered to be less durable than cast vinyl, but it is also less expensive and easier to handle during the production process.
- Cast – is a type of vinyl material that is produced by casting liquid vinyl onto a release liner. Unlike calendered vinyl, which is created by heating and pressing vinyl sheets through rollers, cast vinyl has a more flexible and conformable nature, making it ideal for use in applications where curves and complex shapes are required. Cast vinyl is often considered to be more durable and higher quality than calendered vinyl, but it is also typically more expensive. Cast vinyl is commonly used for producing vehicle wraps, wall graphics, and high-end signs and banners.
- Hybrid – A hybrid vinyl wrap is a type of vehicle wrap that combines the best characteristics of both cast and calendered vinyl. It is made by layering a cast vinyl material with a calendered vinyl material. The cast vinyl layer provides the conformability and durability, while the calendered vinyl layer provides a smooth, glossy finish. This combination of properties makes hybrid vinyl an excellent choice for vehicle wraps that require both conformability and durability, as well as a high-quality, attractive finish. Additionally, hybrid vinyl wraps are typically more affordable than using cast vinyl alone, making it a popular choice for many wrap professionals.

PICKING THE WRAP FOR YOU CAR
This is what it comes down to. What film are you going to get your vehicle wrapped. All the films listed have their own strengths and weaknesses. Some filmes have very little to no orange peel and have paint like finishes while offering less longevity. Other films might have more longevity but dont offer certain colors or finishes. With that being said we invite you to come in and stop by The Lab North America and have a consultation with one of Wrap installers and go over film choices and colors to see whats available for your vehicle. We also have a in-house graphic designer that can render up color changes and custom liveries.
